LKF Expels One Referee

E-mail Print PDF

The Liberia Kickball Federation (LKF) through its Technical Committee has expelled one referee and suspended four umpires for poorly officiating the quarter finals of the kickball version of the ongoing National County Sports Meet (NCSM) between Grand Cape Mount and Nimba County at the Samuel Kanyan Doe (SKD) Sports Complex. According to the LKF, the actions of the expelled referee and suspended umpires caused serious disturbance amongst spectators and officials.
In a letter signed by the Secretary General of the LKF, Mr. Milton Padmore, a copy of which is in the possession of this paper, the organization (LKF) expelled Referee Otrine Walker and suspended Umpires Agnes Cumming, Curtis Johnson, Tonia Johnson and Wayeeayen Devine for two years each.
The expulsion and suspension of the LKF match officials, the letter states, take immediate effect.
Meanwhile, the LKF has expressed the hope that, “such mad behavior, which tends to divide our people, will not be repeated in our   Federation”.
In a related development, the LKF has suspended its Chief Umpire Jacob Toe for time indefinite.
Toe was suspended for his “refusal” to officiate a game he was assigned to, something which the organization described as disrespect.

Prosperity for Many or Misery for All? I

In just over a week, world leaders will gather in Brazil for the Rio +20 Summit to decide what kind of future we want. Twenty years after the original earth summit, the theme is the green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication.

Why is the conference important and why the aspirations for a 'green economy'? A green economy is one that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. Growth in a green economy is driven by investments that reduce pressures on the environment and the services it provides us, while enhancing energy and resource efficiency.

Tom Kamara’s Demise Great Loss to Journa

On the morning of Friday, June 8, Liberians woke up to news that one of the country’s best   journalists, Tom Kamara had passed away in Brussels, Holland following a brief illness. The death of Mr. Kamara, Publisher of the New Democrat Newspaper came as a shock to all because no one heard about his illness. I am saddened by Mr. Kamara’s demise because it leaves many questions unanswered. Tom’s demise is a great loss to the journalism profession because he brought honor and dignity to the profession in Liberia. He was uncompromising and never bent the rules to accommodate or appease anybody. His critical but well-researched publications endeared him to critical thinkers and people who respect objectivism. While his critical articles and commentaries endeared him to many, Tom also made a lot of enemies among people who considered his publications as an affront to them.

Poetry Factory : With O. T. Zeongar

Violence, violence, oh violence-you are an undesirable menace;
Those who cleave onto violence always set despicable precedence,
They count on violence to attain corruptible prominence,
So they most times exhibit irresponsible arrogance.

Unification Day; a day for the demonstration of brotherliness, oneness and unity
A day to cherish and pay to Liberia, this ‘sweet Land of Liberty,’ all the solidarity
A day to be proud of and hold fast onto our singular identity of similarity
A day to trash out our differences in spite of whatever disparity
Yes Unification Day.
