Guaranty Bank on Sunday, December 4, 2011 retained the championship of the Liberia Bankers Association (LBA) Annual Sports Tournament by beating Eco-Bank Liberia 5-3 on post match penalty. Regular time plus stoppage time ended scoreless. Also in the kickball version of the tournament, Eco-Bank Liberia walked away with the trophy after Global Bank failed to show up for the encounter.
The LBA’s Annual Sports Tournament was held at the Practice Pitch of the Samuel Kanyan Doe (SKD) Sports Complex in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.
The tournament, according to the Chairperson of the organizing committee, H. Lorpu Smith, was aimed at bringing together employees of the various banks as a mean of affiliation.
She said the tournament was also part of activities marking the observance of this year Liberia Bankers’ Week.
According to her, the tournament brought together nine banking institutions across the country.
She said the banks include: the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) and eight commercial banks.
She named the participating commercial banks as: Access Bank, ECO Bank, First International Bank (FIB) International Bank (IB) and Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB).
Others are: United Bank for Africa, Global Bank and the Liberia Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI).
“This tournament is geared towards bringing us together because we all have common goal that we must work towards achieving,” she said she added.
